Get Started
In order to have National Nurses United represent San Antonio nurses and make collective bargaining agreements on our behalf, there are 4 steps to the process.
Step 1. Pledge Support
First, we need to build a network of support, which is the purpose of SA Nurses Unite. Familiarize yourself with the NNOC/NNU 101 document.
It’s only once we know that a lot of nurses want to unionize that we can continue.
You should know that Texas is an “at-will” state, meaning you can face disciplinary action for discussing unionizing or passing out this information while you’re clocked in and on the premises of your job. (Use common sense.)
Step 2. Sign a Card
Next, once enough people are on board, we can pass out and sign confidential cards indicating to National Nurses United that we are serious enough to hold an official vote. Your supervisors and employers cannot see these cards.
Step 3. Vote
Finally, we can turn those cards into the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). They’ll conduct a secret election, in which your employer does not know how you vote. If the majority of employees vote to have union representation, it begins!
Step 4. Success!
Now, your employer must negotiate and bargain with you/the union before they can change any practices.
